About
A technician of the sacred, Adam Lytle writes songs that explore the darker regions of the heart. With its striking lyricism and evocative arrangements, his solo debut, This is the Fire introduces a new voice in the haunted tower of longing where the likes of Leonard Cohen and Scott Walker reside. For those unaware of Robert Joyce and his gutter drenched velvet laden rock & roll earned him a secure place in prestigious Cleveland music history. He led Ma Holos fiercely over 10 years playing with the frenetic energy of a young Iggy Pop mixed the shamanic presence of Brian Jones and a Lou Reed like dedication to never rushing a record or taking on a show he didn’t want to play. After a brief respite from the stage to focus on visual art, Joyce has re-emerged with Ruby, a C86 style amalgam of poetic lyrics, sparse drums and off the cuff late night whimsy; but with the depth one would expect of a 15 year veteran of underground American music. Wilder Maker frontman Gabriel Birnbaum (Mutual Benefit, Katie Von Schleicher) cuts straight to the spiritual essence of the characters he inhabits. The lush and psychedelic folk-rock songs on his new Western Vinyl album Patron Saint of Tireless Losers highlight a mature narrative voice and a consistently surprising musical syntax.
